Women's Philanthropy

Mission Statement

The Woman’s Philanthropy Division of the Jewish Federation of Delaware inspires ALL women in our community to give to their full potential – by sharing their time, knowledge, skills and financial commitment with others.  We enhance our community by

-educating ourselves and others about needs in the Jewish community, and the crucial role Federation plays in meeting those needs
-empowering others not only to get involved, but to become future leaders
-encouraging women to take advantage of our local Jewish agencies so that each of us can live a satisfying Jewish life and pass the tradition of Judaism to the next generation
-raising the funds necessary to carry out all the above

Women's Campaign

The past few years, Delaware women have contributed nearly half of the total raised annually by the Federation's Annual Campaign!  Your gift as a woman expresses your personal commitment to Jewish life, in Delaware and around the world.

Lion of Judah

The Lion of Judah is an internationally recognized designation
for women who personally contribute $5,000 or more to the Jewish Federation Annual Campaign during a given year.  Women who reach the Lion of Judah level with their campaign gifts are entitled to wear a gold pin in the shape of the Lion of Judah. Introduced in 1972 by the Miami Federation, thousands of women around the world proudly wear the Lion pin in recognition of their commitment to the Jewish community.  The Lions of Judah gather during the year for an educational and fundraising event.

Pomegranate Pin Program

The Pomegranate Pin Program recognizes women in our community who personally contribute between $1800 and $4999 to the Jewish Federation of Delaware Annual Campaign.  Women who reach the Pomegranate Level are entitled to wear the specially designed Pomegranate Pin, introduced in 1981 by the Jewish Federation of Lehigh Valley.  Each year that a woman continues her gift at the Pomegranate level, she is entitled to add a new ruby “seed” to the pin indicating the number of years she has contributed as a Pomegranate. Today, more than 7,000 women across North America proudly wear the Pomegranate Pin, signifying their personal commitment to and passion for their communities and their Jewish families around the world. The pomegranate was chosen as a symbol of this level of giving as it contains 613 seeds, symbolizing the 613 mitzvot, or commandments, within the Torah.

During Sukkot last month, the 2010 Lions of Judah gathered at the home of Federation’s Past President, Suzanne Grant, to enjoy an evening of good company and gourmet, healthful food.  Special guest, Susie Fishbein, best-selling kosher cookbook author, presented an engaging cooking demonstration and dinner of Middle Eastern “martinis,” salmon salad with carrot-ginger vinaigrette, and bruschetta chicken with wheat berry salad. more
